When traffic is moving freely, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® helps maintain the speed you set. When a vehicle is detected ahead, the system can adjust acceleration and braking to help maintain your selected distance. Depending on the model, equipment, and driving conditions, the system may also help bring the vehicle to a complete stop and assist with moving again when traffic resumes.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® uses vehicle sensors to monitor traffic ahead and support adaptive cruise control functions. The driver sets the desired speed and following distance using the steering wheel controls. From there, the system can help accelerate, slow down, and maintain spacing from the vehicle in front, up to the selected speed.
On many Mercedes-Benz models, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® also works with the selected drive program, helping tailor the driving style for a more efficient, comfortable, or dynamic feel. Feature behavior and availability vary by Mercedes-Benz model, model year, and equipment package.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® builds on traditional cruise control by adding distance-based support. Standard cruise control is designed to maintain a set speed. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® can also monitor a vehicle ahead and help adjust speed to maintain the selected following distance.
The system is a driver assistance feature, not a substitute for attentive driving. The driver must remain alert, keep hands available for steering, watch surrounding traffic, and be ready to brake or take control at all times.
