Using the drive selector on the steering column, you can tailor how assertively the CLA recuperates energy during deceleration and braking in everyday driving.

Normal: Balanced recuperation for natural, seamless slowing.
Increased: More assertive energy capture to help extend range in stop-and-go traffic.
None: Effectively coasts when you lift off the accelerator for gliding efficiency.
D Auto: Activates intelligent energy recovery via ECO Assistant for situation-aware optimization.

ECO Assistant: Efficiency That Anticipates

The ECO Assistant intelligently processes data from vehicle sensors to help you maximize efficiency and regenerative braking or coasting. By leveraging GPS and map data, the standard DISTRONIC^® adaptive cruise control, and even turn-signal usage, ECO Assistant can suggest when to lift, coast, or recuperate—so efficiency feels intuitive.

Sprinter and Marathon Runner in One: Two-Speed Transmission

A new two-speed transmission on the rear-axle electric drive unit combines eager acceleration with exceptional highway efficiency.

1st Gear: Strong launch from a standstill and outstanding efficiency around town.
2nd Gear: Power delivery optimized for higher speeds and long-distance comfort; the electronically limited 130-mph top speed is achieved in 2nd gear.

“Free” Heat, Smarter Range: Multi-Source Heat Pump

The electric CLA is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to feature an air-to-air heat pump. This multi-source design can tap three energy sources in parallel—waste heat from the electric drivetrain, the battery, and ambient air—to pre-condition the cabin efficiently.

Uses approximately one-third of the energy a comparable auxiliary heater would require for the same output.
Supports range-preserving pre-conditioning for daily convenience and comfort.
